Aesthetics and Techniques

A landscape is like a painters' canvas, the imagination is the limit. But I see this as much more than a landscape, I see it as a form of art that is meant to please its audience, and a beautiful landscape can be one of the most amazing sights. Never have I experienced more relaxation, tranquility, intrigue, and inspiration than in the garden where the landscape can become like a picture of paradise. Botanescapes pays close attention to every detail of the design and construction to deliver a beautiful setting. Generally a well balanced design will include plants of different height, species, and leaf shape while being similar in light and water requirements.

Botanescapes uses mostly evergreen perennials that live for many years. This means that the garden is a one time investment that continues to grow and develop becoming more beautiful and valuable as years pass. Evergreen perennials don't cost much more than annuals but they can potentially last a lifetime. It is for this reason I tend to avoid flowering annuals which last one season and then die. Some annuals do offer flower variety and color so if they are used is it generally as a "filler" to the permanent base perennials of the design.

Each plant used is individually selected for health, structure and appearance. If an available plant is not satisfactory we will search for it elsewhere, or wait until a better selection is available.

The transporting and planting process can be rough on plants so Botanescapes takes the extra time and effort to be as gentle as possible to keep the plants in the best shape.

At the time of installation all Botanescapes plants are given a vitamin and hormone supplement to invigorate their growth and ensure successful establishment in their new location.

Part of my vision as a landscaper is to bring nature, science, and art together. When I design a landscape, I design it to be beautiful from every angle or viewpoint. This is achieved by giving a certain geometry or symmetry to the placement of different plants according to their size and shape.

Pruning plants to look most pleasing.

Even "ugly" plants can look good if cleaned up and shaped nicely. For example an Oleander can be an unsightly mass on the side of the freeway or it can be a small tree with beautiful flowers similar to its close relative Plumeria. Every branch contributes to the appearance of an individual plant or tree and furthermore to the overall visual of the landscape. Simply cutting a bush into a box shape will encourage the growth of numerous sucker branches the make the plant unsightly as well as trapping dead leaves and making a 'Rats nest'. In addition to improving appearance, selective pruning also promotes the healthy growth of trees. Palms for exampled are harmed by the wrong pruning practices.
