Soil
Root-soil interactions are affected by soil colloids, cations, water, temperature, and among others a diverse range of micro organisms including bacteria and fungi. Some plants have more specific needs in terms of soil composition while others are readily adaptable to a wide range of soil types. Botanescapes most often uses the latter type to ensure success. Even for these plants there is an ideal soil type; not too much water retention, not too little, not too much air space, not too little, not too much humus, not too little, variation of soil particle size from clay to sand as well as healthy populations of mycorrhiza fungi.
Another important factor in soil quality is pH. Alkaline soils(high pH) can cause nutrients to precipitate out of solution, becoming unavailable for use by plants. This means the nutrients are present but the plant can not use them. This problem can be remedied by adding organic material to the soil. On the other hand acidic soils(low pH) can be lethal to root function and this can be remedied by adding inorganic material. Botanescapes provides a soil that is suitable to the plants used.
